Another definition of a green vehicle is one that really does have less impact on the environment than most motor vehicles, even those that are considered to be 'green'. There are some recognised standards which define green vehicles. Those vehicles that meet these standards are green, those that fail to reach these standards are not. There are a number of different technologies that are used to produce green, low-emission vehicles. No vehicle can be genuinely 'green'. At the very least there are manufacturing processes, both to manufacture the components and also to build the vehicle ready for the customer. The type of fuel that a vehicle uses is an important part of being 'green'. Vehicles powered by a range of non-fossil fuels are considered green. Electric and electric hybrid vehicles are seen as green even though the electricity that powers them derives form power stations. compressed-air vehicles, hydrogen and fuel-cell vehicles, neat ethanol vehicles, flexible-fuel vehicles, natural gas vehicles, clean diesel vehicles and fuel sources derived form biomass material, are considered to be green because any emissions are seen as natural. |
